STICKY SUMMER EDITION WITH GUEST DJ OLLIE
It's time to load up on the tanning oil. This Friday, I'll be spinning some blazing hot disco jams downstairs at the Green Lantern from 11 PM to 1 AM. Expect lots of early 80's electro, Italo disco, and maybe even something new glorifying one of our favorite performers. Don't forget to tell all your friends, enemies, and tricks about the RAW party THIS FRIDAY. It's gonna be a special Sleazy Beach Edition, so cut your short-shorts even shorter, stuff yourself into your skankiest speedo, and slather your body in Coppertone. It's gonna get HOT!!! In the meantime, check out some of my fave tracks. Boney M - Gotta Go Home Azoto - San Salvador (12-inch) The Swiss - Bubble Bath FRESH JAMS, STILL PINK IN THE CENTER
Once, digging for new music meant sludging through church basement cardboard boxes and stale shelves at your local corporate record chain, but nowadays there is a new place for this detective-like-approach: the Interwebs. When our own Vinyl Nympho isn't rubbing her private parts against record store owners for a bargain buy discount, the RAW boys are up all night looking for new music, classic rips, and vintage porn. Mike Monday is on a mission - a new single, every week, for 10 weeks. His week #2 offering, which we stumbled across recently, is this nu-disco gem, replete with synthesized vocal stabs, hand claps, and panning sighs and grunts. All the stuff we love to hear in the club—and in the backroom. Be on the lookout for more weekly singles, and drop him a small donation should your trick left without his pay and you find yourself sitting on a couple "spare" dollars. With releases on choice labels (and RAW faves) DFA and Permanent Vacation, Midnight Magic are poised to take 2010 for a wild ride with their classic disco sound, infused wuth live instrumentation and glorious female vocals. With members of Hercules and Love Affair in the line-up, you can only imagine what else they have up their polyester sleeves. On this remix, Jacques Renault speeds up the tempo a bit and layers some delicious percussion and chopped vocals to reinvent a stellar, dancefloor-ready remix; 5his is a track that you'll definitely be hearing at the RAW parties for many months to come. Anybody who knows the RAW boys knows that we're all about the sticky sweetness that is Honey Soundsystem. Their set at Disco Bloodbath (UK) has been on repeat via their podcast for weeks now, and they just finished a remix for up and coming, (half) homo-pop-punk Brooklyn outfit, Street Hero. Acid-drenched and delightful with precision production at it's core, they have managed to strip the single down to a hand-filled, bare-ass squeeze of tech, house, and minimal electronica. Honey has been stirring up the West coast with their weekly Sunday party at Paradise Lounge, along with guest sets and appearances all over the country, and Europe as well. Hopefully the RAW boys can convince them to include DC in their destination plans. A little RAW HNY does a body good, you know? Mike Monday - Robot Go Disco Midnight Magic - Beam Me Up (Jacques Renault Remix) Street Hero - End of The World (Honey Soundsystem Remix) I LIKE TO WATCH, YOU KNOW?
I've been very busy talking to lesbians about their obsession with gay male porn. Like the rest of us, many lesbians just can't get enough...gay porn. More visible now due to a scene in the new film, The Kids Are All Right, when Julianne Moore gives oral pleasure to Annette Benning while they watch two dudes fuck the shit out of each other, it's been surfacing for a while. Lots of arguments are given as to what's behind it: the projection of internal arousal onto obvious external signs of arousal, a dearth of realistic lesbian porn (not a convincing argument I've found), and the plasticity of female porn stars; but I encountered one lesbian with a point that I hadn't yet read. This tall butch fantasizes about the codes of behavior displayed in gay porn: cruising, hanky codes, eye contact, grunting, and fucking people whose names you don't even know...apparently it's harder to have that kind of sex as a gay woman (unless you're Michelle Tea) and this one lesbian said that's something she fantasizes about while rocking out to some fag porn. And we here at RAW think that's hot. Felix Da Housecat - Like Something for Porno Lesbians on Ecstacy - Sedition Freemasons feat. Amanda Wilson - Watchin' DEEP, DEEP INSIDE OOFT!
Urban dictionary tells us that the meaning of the word (or phrase) "OOFT" means when one is impressed by something; when a person is taken back by something. RAW is certainly impressed when it comes to the blog house, production team, and DJs-extraordinaire that make up OOFT!.
Comprised of Ali Herron and Graeme "The Revenge" Clark, OOFT! (pictured above) have been soliciting edits, remixes, and original cuts since they were teenagers. It wasn't until early 2004 that their sounds were frequently heard in clubs throughout the UK, and their house-heavy, deep disco-funk trademark soon became ingrained in partygoers' heads throughout the world. Both have worked under various monikers throughout the past decade including: Deportivo Street Team, OOFT!, Cronk Family Enterprises, 6th Borough Project, and The Hong Kong Micros. Their monthly party in Glasgow (also under the moniker OOFT!) has been running strong for over a year now. Be sure to head over to JUNO to scoop up their EPs, singles, and full lengths; in the meantime, check out some of the tracks below! INXS - Learn To Smile (OOFT edit) SOS Band - High Hopes (Touchsoul edit/OOFT recut) OOFT - Carlos vs Teddy Melba Moore - Love's Comin' At Ya! (OOFT! Rework) MATTHEW DEAR IS WRAPPED IN GOLD GIFT RIBBONS
Matthew Dear is set to release his new album Black City through Ghostly on August 17. It's the first album under his own name since 2007's amazing Asa Breed, but that doesn't mean he hasn't kept busy during those three years. Look for his other work under pseudonyms Audion and Jabberjaw. RAW has two tracks from the new album for you: Little People (Black City), an epic 9-minute hypnotic gem with a throbbing bassline that builds and builds and I Can't Feel, a pared down track with classic Dear vocals woven with muted hammond organ chords, whizzes and beeps, plus a sassy bassline. Other tracks in this post include Rally Rasser Good, a previously unreleased track from the recent Horizon Line/Ghostly By Night compilation; Don and Sherri, one of the highlights from his 2007 release; and Hurt, a fantastic compilation with Seth Troxler.
