THE SPIRIT OF '76
On July 4, 1976, the U S of A turned 200 years old, celebrating its bi-sexual-centennial. America had a lot to celebrate: things like freedom, liberty, and stuff and things...but 1976 was also filled with really great music and culture that RAW thinks we should acknowledge. Here are ten things that RAW loves from 1976. We've also posted some great tunes from that year to get you pumped for tonight's RED, WHITE, & RAW party. Get ready to shake your ass and blow out 234 candles in honor of America's birthday. (Oh, and just want to give a photo credit to Robert Patrick. We found the above photo on his blog. It's him and his dog in July 1976). 1. Gay rights, because "gay is good!"
2. A star was born.
3. Computers looked like this.
4. Little Edie graced the planet and offered advice on the best outfit for the day.
5. Matchbox made kick ass toys like these.
6. The fucking Runaways formed in 1976!!!
7. Moms bought Playgirl magazines that little gay boys could borrow and return a little stickier.
8. Peter Frampton came alive.
9. Barbie got into the Montreal Olympic spirit.
10. D-I-S-C-O wasn't dead (and never will be).
